Ventura Family YMCA Hosts a Week of Free Activities For Seniors to Celebrate the 18th Annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day The Ventura Family YMCA will join an estimated 1,000 organizations across the country to celebrate the 18th Annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day (NSHFD). Instead of celebrating on a single day though, the Y is extending the celebration all week from May 23rd to May 27th! As an official host site, the Y will hold seminars, wellness expos, classes, socials and most importantly the events will all be FREE!
During the week, the Y will be opening its doors, for free, not only to members but to all seniors in the area, giving them the opportunity to join more than 100,000 seniors across the country, who will be participating in healthy lifestyles activities.
As Ventura Family YMCA executive director Margo Byrne explains, "Our Senior Week is a wonderful opportunity for seniors to make, renew, and revitalize their commitment to live healthier lives and connect with new friends. Monday, May 23 - Cypress Place Senior Living center will host "Senior Games" a day devoted to activities such as horseshoes, Frisbee toss and horse racing; 12pm to 2pm
Tuesday, May 24 - The YMCA will feature a variety of Wellness Seminars including "Options for Senior Living" - Jim Duran - Cypress Place Senior Living Center, 11 am, "Don't Outlive Your Money in Retirement"- Dan Lyon - New York Life, 11am, "Living with Arthritis and How We Can Help"- Natascha Skerczak - Arthritis Foundation, 12:30 pm, "Stroke: Prevention, Recognition & Treatment"- Andrea Ricketts - StrokeAware, 1 pm and "Nutrition for Seniors" - Patti Jaeger - Ventura County Area Agency on Aging, 1:30 pm Free lunch will be served at noon.
Wednesday, May 25-The YMCA will have specialists from all over Ventura County available to answers questions and teach attendees the benefits of being a senior. Discover free nutrition counseling, transportation benefits, doctors, specialists, nutritionists, activity coordinators and much more. Free lunch will be served at noon.
Thursday, May 26 - A variety of senior classes will be held at the YMCA during the "Senior Class Showcase". Classes available are Arthritis Foundation Aquatics Class, 8am; Low Impact, 9am; Arthritis Foundation Aquatics Class, 10am; Creative Writing, 11am, Tai Chi, 12pm and International Folk Dance, 1:30pm
Friday, May 27 - The YMCA will host a Senior Social, allowing seniors the opportunity to spend some time with new friends.
